For Free Walking Tours (Shanghai & Beijing)
We request each visitor to make the online pre-booking so that we can keep you informed of any changes of the tour and arrange tour guides accordingly. It only takes you 3 minutes to do the click, easy, clear, and free!
YES! You will receive a confirmation email right after your booking. One day before the tour, you will also get another welcome email from your guide with their information and more tour details. Make sure the email address you left is correct!
YES! The tour will generally go on rain or shine, unless the weather is really catastrophic (like Typhoon). You will also receive a welcome email the day before the tour to inform you of the weather condition if necessary.
We usually start with a 15-20 minute introduction speech at the meeting point after the tour begins. If you’re up to 20 minutes late, you can still catch up there. However if you’re more than 30 minutes late, it may be hard to catch up (remember that Google Maps and WhatsApp aren’t always reliable in China:P) and you will surely lose some delightful stops! We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes early before the meeting time.
YES! We have 1-2 breaks included in all tours for some amazing and cheap local food, drink and toilet! We won’t sit in any restaurant but you will surely enjoy the street food adventure along the way:)
The time may go by much quicker than you thought! We design the tour to be very well-paced with many breaks. Previously, we had visitors aging from 3 months old to 78 years old, everyone made it to the end with ease. So keep calm and enjoy the tour!:)
We only take bookings for groups of less than 6 people so as to optimize the experience of everyone who comes. Feel free to contact us to get a private walking tour arranged if you have a group bigger than 6!
All our public free walking tours are in English, but we also offer private tours in Mandarin and Spanish!
Podemos hacer tours privados en español.
For Cooking Class (Shanghai)
Yes! We offer vegetarian versions of dumplings and other dishes. However, in a group experience with meat-eaters, we may still prepare one meat dish to showcase the full flavor of Chinese cuisine.
Yes! We can create a vegan menu for you. However, traditional Chinese dumplings often include eggs for the best flavor, so we have to be honest: pure vegetable dumplings might not fully capture the authentic taste of Chinese dumplings!
Yes! We can customize a gluten-free menu for you. Unfortunately, since all Chinese dumplings use flour for the skins, we will have to skip the dumpling-making part of the experience.
Absolutely! We love welcoming future master chefs! The process of making dumplings and preparing dishes is interactive and fun for kids. We recommend bringing children over 5 years old to get the most out of the experience. Due to the effort involved in serving kids, we charge the same price for children as for adults.
Absolutely! You’ll get to enjoy a generous taste of each recipe during the class. We’ll make sure there’s more than enough food for you to eat and even take some home! So, come hungry and get ready for a homemade feast!
Yes! Our master chef will share all the recipes you learned in class in a handy PDF document. We hope these recipes accompany you on your culinary journey, inspiring you to explore amazing cuisines from around the world!
Get ready for a blast – we’ll be cooking in a cozy local Chinese home with a nice garden in a beautiful alleyway neighborhood of the former French Concession area. It’s not a commercial kitchen, so it offers a superhomely and immersive experience! The detailed address will be shared before the tour.
We accommodate bookings of 1-6 participants, with discounts for larger groups. The experience requires a minimum of 2 participants to start. If you’re booking for just one person, please contact us for confirmation.
For bookings of 3-6 participants, we’ll reserve the date just for you to make it your private experience! For bookings of 2 participants, the slot will remain open for 1-2 more participants. If you want a private experience, simply book for 3 participants, and the slot will be exclusively yours!
Yes! We are happy to offer you a private session based on your requested time. Please contact us at least 48 hours beforehand to coordinate!
We request bookings at least 48 hours in advance to prepare the venue and ingredients. However if you do have a last-minute request, feel free to contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you!
- Bookings canceled 48 hours or more before your experience are fully refundable (100% refund).
- Bookings canceled within 24-48 hours are 50% refundable.
- Bookings canceled within 24 hours are non-refundable.
- If you need to reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice, we’ll charge you 25% of the total cost as a rescheduling fee due to the expense of ingredients and venue reservation.
